Guardians Need You is an emergency rescue initiative of Golden State Great Pyrenees Rescue & Sanctuary, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and finding the right future for Great Pyrenees and other livestock guardian dogs.

Every day, guardian dogs find themselves in shelters through no fault of their own — abandoned, injured, misunderstood, or simply running out of time.

We exist to give them another chance.

WHEN THEY NEED SOMEONE, WE SAY YES.

Our rescue steps in for guardian dogs facing euthanasia, abandonment, medical emergencies, and other urgent situations.

But saying YES takes more than opening a kennel.

It takes fosters willing to provide a safe place to land. Donors and pledgers willing to help cover medical care and rescue expenses. Volunteers willing to transport. And people willing to share a dog whose time may be running out.

That’s where you come in.

When our community comes together, a dog who had nowhere to go can suddenly have an entire future ahead of them.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THEY'RE SAFE?

Getting them out is only the beginning.

Every guardian who enters our care receives the time, medical care, evaluation, rehabilitation, and support they need before we determine what comes next.

Some were born to protect livestock and simply need the right ranch or farm.

Some are better suited to life as beloved family companions.

And some, because of medical or behavioral needs, may remain safely with us for life.

We don't just find somewhere for a dog to go. We work to find where they belong.

MORE THAN RESCUE

Our work extends beyond emergency shelter pulls.

Through Golden State Great Pyrenees Rescue & Sanctuary, we provide rehabilitation, adoption and placement, lifelong sanctuary when needed, livestock guardian dog evaluation and training, and education to help people better understand these extraordinary breeds.

We believe guardian dogs shouldn't lose their lives simply because their instincts were misunderstood or because help didn't arrive in time.
